Ribbon Ripples

"Ribbon Ripples"

Here is another of revelation of what's going on in my brain. I just paint these. They emerge. Develop. Evolve as my brush drags across the canvas. I have no explanation for them. I just do them.

Once again, however, what appears to be blue here would be categorized more as purple in my mind. If you are considering buying it, it's not a BLUE painting.

Ripples

"Ripples"
18" x 24"
Oil on wrapped canvas
The brushwork in a section of one of my last paintings reminded me of ripples on a dark pond. There are concrete ponds at the Botanic Gardens, painted that way to reflect the sky and vegetation surrounding them.

I didn't refer to any of my dark pond photos to paint this. I drew from within, allowing nothing but feeling to dictate where the brush would go and what color would be on it. The background is purple blue and green.

Before the Storm

"Before the Storm"
6" x 6"
Oil on hardboard
The point of the island on Reservoir Pond caught the last bit of light as a storm sauntered through that July afternoon. The tallest pine had sported a bald eagle when I kayaked around the tip of the island earlier in the day.

The peach color you see in the sky and water are the under-painting.  I toned my panel by rubbing on a glaze of burnt umber with a sponge, the burnishing it off with paper towel.  It shows through and gives the piece a warmth I couldn't have painted any other way.

I appreciate your visits.

Autumn Crescent Puzzle Moon

"Autumn Crescent Puzzle Moon"
18" x 24"
Acrylic on wrapped canvas

One steamy indian summer night when he thought nobody was looking, the Autumn Crescent took a refreshing dip in a rippling brook.  I saw him from the nursery window, as I rocked my feverish child and wished we could join him.

I posted the companion piece to this one back in August, and forgot to follow up with this one.  Here it is now—strangely out of order, but included, now.

Thank you for stopping by today.
