Waiting For A Storm

My friend spent his vacation time one year chasing tornadoes.  He focused his passion and attention on Texas, where there are big skies with big storms. This was not one of the sought-after skies he was there to photograph, but a colorful one that he shared with me.

I have a couple of other larger pieces in the works, so here's another sky for the meantime.

Come Springtime

Wishful thinking keeps me smiling.  It's just too bleh outside for my liking. Too chilly, too damp, too all the same shade of grey.  I could even go for some midwestern, field-greens.  Like this springtime fantasy.

It's another sky, but this one is larger than my standard six inch beauties.

Before the Storm

The point of the island on Reservoir Pond caught the last bit of light as a storm sauntered through that July afternoon. The tallest pine had sported a bald eagle when I kayaked around the tip of the island earlier in the day.

The peach color you see in the sky and water are the under-painting.  I toned my panel by rubbing on a glaze of burnt umber with a sponge, the burnishing it off with paper towel.  It shows through and gives the piece a warmth I couldn't have painted any other way.

I appreciate your visits.
