Sunshine and Shadow

"Sunshine and Shadow"
12" x 12"
Oil on wrapped canvas
Something cast a shadow across the petals of the yellow rose the morning I went to the Botanic Gardens to shoot subject matter. I didn't realize it until I got home and imported the images from my camera. I would have found the culprit and moved it, had I noticed while I was there. As it stands, the shadow gives this pretty little bloom somewhat of a tattoo.

Scarlet Trim

"Scarlet Trim"
10" x 8"
Oil on hardboard

She was colorful to the point of quirky in her lemony attire trimmed in scarlet. She was unique in the bouquet and was magnificently fragrant to boot.  This petite little rose has brought a lot of joy.

The rose was the size of a quarter.  I've painted her before, in a different pose.  I'm fond of her color and crumpled look.

Thank you for looking in today.

Demure

Oil on wrapped canvas

In the rose garden near my home this little beauty, so demure, cast her countenance toward the dewy blades of morning. Her petals (not my usual whorled favorites) seemed to be reaching for some distant thing in longing.

This is the third in my twelve by twelve inch series of roses. I happen to like the non-traditional arrangement of her petals.

Yellow Rose

"Yellow Rose"
6" x 6"
panel

This yellow rose in my neighbor's garden was near the end of her run when I passed by, as I walked my dog recently.  Her petals rolled back like she was thankful for a sunny day under 90°.

I painted this rose twice—on the same panel. The first go-round she was too pale and lacked what I saw in her in the first place.  I let it dry, then went back in with different saturations of similar colors, not quite glazing over the original, but definitely adding to the intensity as I brushed.

This little painting is listed with, and for sale through a Daily Paintworks Auction.

Thank you for looking.

Ooh-La-La

"Ooh-La-La"

In the bouquet she didn't seem any more special than her vase-mates. But when I isolated her, she perked up and strutted her stuff.

It was a treat to paint this little beauty.  I sponged the entire canvas with a cool lemon yellow, then added the details that made her so unique with a brush.  I loved losing the edges of her dark petals to the background.

This painting can be seen with a lot of other fab paintings on DailyPaintworks.  And she's for sale on an auction on that site, too.

Thanks for visiting!
