Slipping Into Old Patterns

The title seemed like a fitting one, so soon after the new year, what with mid January around the corner.  I'm sure a lot of us have slipped into old patterns as resolutions have gone by the wayside. No biggie. Tomorrow's another day.

I had time on Saturday to draw while I was waiting. I am not trained in portraiture, but wanted to make an attempt at it, so instead of making a serious stab, I opted for whimsy. It occupied my time and gave me pleasure, too.

You Gotta Have Heart

In keeping with my other two Zentangle drawings, here is another heart. I've used different patterns to fill in the same basic shape. I have nothing in mind when I begin, except that it will be drawn in a square format, a heart and done in a soft graphite pencil so I can smear shadows where I want them.

In My Heart of Hearts

I had time to draw — Zentangle— today and this is what poured forth.  A heart. Imagine that.  The shape fit in a square of paper with interesting negative space, and I opted to fill that space with organic shapes. Shapes like fingers reaching for the heart.

If you haven't tried it, or know nothing about it, check Zentangle or Google it and search the images to see some pretty amazing stuff.  With a pen, or pencil in this case, and a piece of paper, one can channel anxious moments into productive positive energy.
