Arched Again

"Arched Again"
8" x 10"
Acrylic on canvas panel
The comments about my first Arched painting were so encouraging that I decided to make another one. This time I limited my palette to a triad of blue violet, red violet and yellow. The elements remain the same, although in a different format.

I am well, but thank you for asking.  I've been out of town, then   I entertained family members from Wisconsin and Michigan.  Painting was not a high priority, but it certainly feels good to be back in my studio tonight.

Arched

"Arched"
14" x 11"
Acrylic on wrapped canvas
I traveled during my absence, but by way of fever and illness, not to any place that involved reservations, tickets or my camera. Bronchitis caught me at the tail end of a cold and whipped my proverbial derriere.  This scene is reminiscent of where my fever took me while I lolled with bonbons and peeled grapes.

Golden brand fluid acrylics, molding paste, and about half a dozen layers turned a lifeless grey canvas into something short of walking on its own.  I painted her to fit into a frame that is a weathered deep red, like the uppermost left hand corner of this piece. I wrestled and fastened her into the frame, where she's content for the time being. I hope to paint more like this one. The process was about as lively as the outcome!

Trio

"Trio"
6" x 8"
Watercolor and Ink on Yupo
The title "Trio" refers to three colors and three applications. My first application was to slather grayed blue over the Yupo and press a plastic lace into it.  I let it dry and then stenciled the acanthus swirls in analogous, yet the remaining complementary colors. After it was all dry, I used a waterproof pen to squiggle and dot in the shadows.

I had so many ideas of what to paint on or around the blue pattern, but the swirling acanthus won… this time.

Hope

"Hope"
24" x 24"
Oil and Acrylic on wrapped canvas
January is a time of regrouping, renewing and becoming who we want to be, for whatever reason. It's a contemplative time, a meditative time and a time to give up or re-up.

I spent today making this large painting filled with imagery and symbolism in honour of those of us who are in flux, in quandaries or just plain sick (and tired).  Give it your best shot, darlings! There's hope. Spring is within reach.

Love to all who ... struggle,

Dragon Tails

"Dragon Tails"
18" x 18"
Acrylic on wrapped canvas

There's a place not too far from here where the sky looks like cotton candy, and clouds resemble dragon tails. If I close my eyes it's right over ... there. Try it. See if you agree.

This painting is sold, but I can recreate a companion piece in your own cotton candy colors if you'd like.

Tree of Life

"Tree of Life"
18" x 24"
Acrylic on wrapped canvas
My Tree of Life curls just like life itself.  You never know from one minute to the next what will change and how that change will impact your life. "Buckle up," I say, "It could be a wild ride."

This is my attempt at making a Tree of Life style with paint, instead of with fractal-generating software.  The background is troweled-on plaster and faux finished like I used to do on walls. It's very textural, both visually and to the touch.

I'm happy you are here with me today.

Fusion

"Fusion"
  24" x 36"
Acrylic on wrapped canvas
painted black border
Two elements, solids in their own right, collide. They swirl, liquefy and amalgamate. The synergy of their fiery union bears repeating.

Please enjoy one of my favorites in the series of abstracted swirl paintings. Today's canvas is not only filled with swirls, some of them have developed tails, adding an active element to the mix.

It's warm, come sip ginger ale with me.

Fractalish Fire Dance

"Fractalish Fire Dance"
24" x 24"
Acrylic on wrapped canvas
painted black border
Energy spun, twirled and whirled in this magical realm charged with saturated, hot colors—dazzling my senses.

My intrigue with fractals continued as I explored the graceful curves of of several swirls in different sizes and colors of balls.  I even swirled the nearly dry paint into the circular shapes with an eighth-inch bristle brush.

Thank you for being here today.

Fractalish

"Fractalish"
24" x 36"
Acrylic on wrapped canvas
black and blue painted border

When I first saw Jock Cooper's artwork I was drawn to his computer generated images with Fibonacci swirls and a bold use of color.  Once we became friends, we both wondered how a painter would execute the essence of what math equations had done for him via a software program.  I assigned myself the challenge.

This is another in a series of fractal-like paintings I made during this particular quest. I hope you enjoy the series while I work on a few more house portraits.

I always appreciate your visits.

Gabriel

"Gabriel"
24" x 30"
Acrylic on wrapped canvas
painted black border
Great joy makes my heart sing. When my heart sings I turn to wings as a source of inspiration. I adore wings, having witnessed them in a near-death experience. I titled this Gabriel, but it could be called a different name just as easily.  Joy of this sort transcends...

When I painted this series I painted black borders that wrapped around the sides on some of them.  It made for a very cohesive look when exhibited together.

Thank you so much for today.

Fractal Frenzy

"Fractal Frenzy"
40" x 30"
Acrylic on canvas

I am an artist's agent for a fractal artist in California. I sell his images and animations to rock bands, fashion designers, videographers and corporations looking for unique art.  Jock Cooper at Fractal-Recursions.com  inspired me to try to paint images like he composes via math equations on his computer.  I was commissioned to paint this piece when I refused to sell one similar to it to an admirer.

Please enjoy images from my archives while I paint some larger pieces.  You are all still in my gracious thoughts.

Kale for the Soul

"Kale for the Soul"
16" x 16"
Acrylic mixed media
The kale was just so green, lovely but green, so I took her to my laboratory where I gave her a new outlook on her pedestrian life. Now she's a meditative kind of gal, surrounded by onlookers and worshipers of her spiraling self.

I did Photoshop miss kale, here, to make her fit in with my plan.  I painted all the papers, tore the swirls from metallic painted waxed paper and stuck all the elements together like a grade school project.  Then I added shadows, and smiled at the result.

Thanks for stopping by to have fun with me today.
