Promised Serenity

"Promised Serenity"
24" x 20"
Oil on hardboard

I gazed toward the distant shore and knew that my kayak would glide effortlessly through the reflections and ripples dancing on the surface. I'd soon reach the haven where my spirit could rejuvenate and refresh. That small island held the promise of serenity.

This is a commission piece that I painted today.  I hope it brings its new owners as much peace and serenity as I experienced while painting it.

Morning Over My Lake

"Morning Over My Lake"
6" x 6"
Oil on hardboard
My lake enjoyed a break from winter's harsh thrashing when a fifty-degree day blew through. Some of her ice melted when the temperatures rose, and warm rain puddled on her frozen surface like a tepid bath. Did it feel like a promise of Spring?  It did to me.

I have a solo show coming up in July.  It seems like a long way off, but not really, when I consider I need some new large art. One of the large pieces I plan to exhibit will be a composite piece of about fifty of these sky paintings.  I have some ideas percolating as to how to accomplish my dream, but nothing firm yet.

Sepia Winter

"Sepia Winter"
6" x 8"
Oil on Hardboard
I'm coming to grips with grey sticks poking into the sepia sky.  Not really. My hands ache at the thought of serious cold. My body shivers and my eyes aren't adapting to so much darkness. Soon enough, on my birthday, in fact, we'll reach the pinnacle of darkness and begin the descent down the light side of the slope.

I was compelled to get this one out of my system. It happened almost like a dare. Do it. Just paint the trees and the lake and the dismal sky in sepia and burnt sienna.  Do you ever listen to your inner voice?

Colorado Moon #2

"Colorado Moon #2"
4" x 16"
Watercolor on Arches
The moon shone over the foothills of the Rockies that morning with little regard for the sun. Miss Moon hung provocatively over promontories and points, then sauntered off stage to her... west.

The two Colorado Moon paintings were commissioned.

Make sure you enter my contest to win one of three 12" x 12" rose paintings. "Burgeoning" sold at auction tonight, sorry.  I hope that doesn't deter you.  See July 8ths post for details.
