Leaves in the Creek

This little creek wound through the garden, filling and emptying many different shaped ponds and tributaries. I captured it here as it turned left and headed to the koi pond.

I went to the Anderson Japanese Gardens in Rockford over the weekend.  The colors were at their peak and the late afternoon light was perfect for gathering subject matter.

At Water's Edge

How it stayed rooted for as long as it had, amazed me. A pine that close to the water's edge doesn't usually stand straight and flourish as this one seems to have. I hope my commenting on it hasn't jinxed it.  Hang in there, beauty…

I'll be out of state at a plein air event for about five days. I will not be posting during that time, but will be attentive to email in the evening if you care to write.

Babbling

There were late summer colors and aromas already titillating my senses when I heard the sound of water splashing against rocks.  I rounded the bend on a walk through my friend's property and saw this sight.  I'd love to be invited back.

Most of this was painted with a fan brush.  I'd love to find one with the fan size about the size of a dime. Anyone know of such a brush?

The sun had snuggled behind the pines for the night. She left a nightlight on the creek for the last few stragglers to find their way to shelter.

It has snowed again in my zip code, but it was fast and furious and melted before noon, the way it should be in a State that is not dependent on the white stuff for its economy… like Colorado.

Colorado Creek

I saw the glisten of water from a distance and pulled over to photograph it. It turned out to be a small creek but had some charming curves to her banks, foreground weeds and a steep hill of pines on one side. The hazy hill in the distance probably didn't even have a name, but it captured my attention, nonetheless.

I love to paint water in a landscape. It's seldom the same from one painting to the next in hue, value or texture.  Like sky it changes with the day.

Thank you for visiting.

On the Way to Rockford

This little stream shone with rippled excitement in the autumn light as I drove the back roads toward Rockford.  The scenery is much more appealing along this route than the Interstate.

This small piece was a warm up for a larger landscape I'm working on.  I wanted to get the feeling of distance and a stream.  You'll see the larger piece in a few days.  It's drying some, so I can add an animal in the foreground.  Hmmmmm, not my usual fare.

Thanks for driving by today!
